We were having trouble with 1 client receiving our email properly - using an alternative smtp server to send through was one of the test we carried out - in the end we found it was a problem with the client's exchange server setup

>In that case, have you tried simply sending an email via a login email account you have? and using that as the login/password, but just change the "From" component as the actual from email you want it to LOOK like its being sent from. As long as you know your email service SMTP server, your login email / password should allow you to send out.
