This comment I agree with entirely. I suspect the French are concerned about the Armenian genocide mostly due to the large Armenian population in their own country - that and perhaps alterior political motives?

I think it goes too far and will inhibit research and open discussion. It is one thing for a government to support a position and to promote it in history books after careful research. It is another thing to force that position on an entire populace which will in essence silence any who would disagree with that position or else suffer the consequences of the new law. That basically rules out any future research and discussion on the subject because to state anything other than genocide occurred is now against the law (if that law passes).
