Hi Jim

Nah, it's definitely hung up - maybe cos too many windows with graphics open. Mind you, it happens a LOT less frequently now I'm rid of the Symantec "virus" :-) and old AVG lets me get on much more quickly and less fuss. Several of the pop-up ads have disappeared too. I've got ZoneAlrm up, BitDefender (I think) and another one I can't recall
just now. Also I've cleaned the disk with every tool I've got (inc. Yahoo's which I got with its own explorer, when I went broadband with Yahoo-BT Internet), so I think the m/cs pretty clean.

This is just a big mystery to me. I don't think I had the problem before the firewall(s) though, come to think of it.
Ne'er mind, eh?

PS Do you know of DumpRep.exe?

>I've found, in the general case, that Windows' "Not responding" is far too loosely issued. The application can be churning away in the background and Windows reports it as "Not responding" (apparently because it isn't able to handle user clicks yet). Users tend, legitimately in my opinion, to assume that "Not responding" == dead.

>Now I've had a bit of strangeness recently myself. My entire system (dual processor, mirrored RAID C: drive) simply stops 'accepting' mouse clicks for periods up to 30 seconds@#!$@#@#!$@
>I've concluded that it is directly linked to Outlook (2003), but I don't know the cause. It could be some MS Windows (or Office) update that I recently applied, or possibly my re-arrangement of Outlook's "folders" (I use more .PST files now) after its database became corrupted a few months ago or ?????
>I link this 'stalling' to Outlook because it happens most frequently in Outlook itself, and when it does clicks elsewhere go un-processed. Or if it happens while I'm outside Outlook I can see that Outlook is doing some processing (getting mail).

>But since I have never had your experience with IE, I'd suspect some "infection" on your system.

>>My home PC, when IE crashes (not responding) my whole m/c like seizes up and takes AGES to get rid of the app (sometimes there'll be several IE windows open). The ususal Report Error/Don't Report dialogue doesn't pop up.
>>
>>When I go into Task Manager - Performance I find that there's millions of CPU/memory being used - performance sometimes going up to and inc. 100%. One of the BIG culprits is a process called DUMPREP.exe (which I assume is Dump Report - to MS) which takes forever to complete (and I still don't get the Report Error/Don't Report dialogue). If I end this process then my IE windows are quickly released, and I can get back to surfing.
