I think I can state my position on the death penalty in about two sentences. It's an oxymoron. "You have done the worst thing anyone can do, kill another human being, so for your crime we are going to kill you." Huh?

Somehow being against the death penalty has been spun into being "soft on crime." Hardly, except maybe to those with limited faculties. Tough response to crime is just fine with me. I just don't think capital punishment is part of the equation. It seems like something from the dark ages, or the Islamic states maybe. Am I wrong or we the only "civilized" nation with a death penalty?

>The death penalty is a controversial topic. Is it a deterrent to murder? No. Why allow the state to execute someone? Revenge? Justice? The sob gets his/her just rewards? Does the state have the right to take a life? The individual has the right and if they are caught then what? Are you any better than a killer for wishing him/her dead?

>Speaking of being caught for murdering someone, I remember some figures. 53% are not solved, 28% go to trial and 13% go to jail. So the odds are good that if you kill someone you will not be found, prosecuted or go to jail. So go enjoy!

>I am not for the death penalty nor am I for killing anyone, but here is a thought. The ACLU is representing a California inmate who is in death row, who claims that lethal injection could violate the US constitution's ban on "cruel and unusual punishment".

>I would therefore suggest that all persons convicted of murder and condemned to death should be killed in the same manner in which they killed his/her victim or victims. If multiple means were used to kill a victim or victims then it should be at the discretion of the executers in which order they will be applied to the condemned person. This seems like a reasonable solution. Also, executions should be made public. We see worse things on the 6 PM news everyday.

>>Here we have it....a total scum-bag who killed 5 people [including 3 children] in 1989, because he thought passages in the Bible told him to do so.

>>He was sentenced to death, but is trying to get involved in a lawsuit against lethal injection...because he's a diabetic and overweight, and therefore will experience pain and suffering during the procedure.
