It is, of course, not as precise as all that. The challenge/fun is utilizing that information to best advantage.

There are lots of legitimate reasons why one wouldn't like or want to play bridge. But I think you are VASTLY over-simplifying your point. My guess (I could be wrong) is that you were exposed to the game by parents (or even grandparents) who played as a social past-time and had little idea what the game was all about. Sort of like people who learn to move the chess pieces and think they understand the game.
