Thanks for your quick followup.
Great minds think in the same way. I am planning to test the original problem, i.e. the ATL OLE DB Consumer Wizard for VC++ in VS2005 with a test version of this DB with the suspicious table removed.
The odd thing about this is that I can use that DB as a data source in Excel, via the same Data Source configuration untility that the ATL OLE DB Consumer Wizard uses, and VFPOLDB. I think that VFPOLEDB must be returning stuff to the wizard that is causing the wizard to choke.
I didn't understand the first question in your posting about what I was using to modify the database. Could you clarify that?
