Well I gotta say that IBM had more impact overall, to date.
Without them the PC might still be trying to get off the ground... who knows.

No doubt MS has had huge impact, but I think it's a different kind.
Not sure that MS "invented" much of anything to do with IT, but they sure know how to embellish, consolidate, integrate and market stuff. Their "common interface", phoney as it really is in fact though it looks common to all, was a sheer stroke of genius and let them become the standard desktop for most of the world.
MS has also begun to face something they haven't had to face before, and I'm not so sure they're going to show themselves to be good at it - transitioning a huge and greatly varied user base to newer and better products with good value and PROTECTING EXISTING INVESTMENTS.
