Actually it's the opposite switching to row buffering minimized the "table is in use" error (although sometimes it appears). And yes the grid uses multiple table. It's a real headache :).

I *think* switching to using table buffering (rather than row) helped. Do you have multiple tables being updated in your grid? is your grid source a view?
