My fear was that this nation may have elected LBJ and then he would have gone all the way! If that had occured I do not think that there would be life on earth as we know it today.

LBJ was frightful, a liar and a very powerful man.

I cannot forget October of 1968 during the presidential campaign with Nixon, who stated that he saw no reason why a country with as much power as we possess could not pave Vietnam with concrete, make it a parking lot and “have our boys home by Christmas”. Eisenhower made a promise aimed at American mothers before being elected to the presidency, to bring our boys back from Korea.

As you know it took until 1975 to “get our boys back” from Vietnam, almost one year after Nixon had left office. Many voters were afraid of what the democrats would do if they held the top public offices and were tired of the war in Vietnam, so the republicans won. And here we are today able to reflect back upon all of this.

There was an Irish group who had a song released around 1970, about Nixon. Below are two lines that I can recall. It had to do with that little button in the Oval Office that if pressed released nuclear war around the world.

With a butt of me a** as I go past
It all goes up in smoke
