I need to have an alternate name for a server so that when I move WSUS from this server to another, I don't have to change all of the clients to point to it. For instance, the server is currently called PCC-PREC210-001 and has several functions including WSUS. I would like to be able to move the WSUS to a different computer in the future. I have tried using the HOSTS file, LMHOSTS file, WINS and DNS to set up another name to refer to the current server. Everyway works when I ping the new name. Nothing works when I try to use Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer to access the computer.
