My best way to emulate lady Emma is to write the specs, progress report or any other sort of description of what I'm doing. Just trying to explain it puts you into a special mindset, you get your content rushed through different streets in your brain, and you just see what you otherwise wouldn't. Saved me so many times.
p.s. As a matter of principle, I think that a principal and Gavrilo Princip shouldn't be pals.
