I think I mentioned before, and I have no reason to doubt that this incident occurred. As you know Powell as for the most part been silent about his tenure. But Lawrence Wilkerson, his right hand man for most of his tenure, has not.

I was watching a documentary examining the lies that got us into Iraq. Wilkerson was interviewed for this. It saddened me to hear his voice kind of shaking as he described sitting at his desk as Powell came out to announce that another of his statements at the UN had been discredited.

Powell realized after enough times that he had been a tool. Wilkerson described how one of his major regrets was that after the first time Powell had made this type of announcement, he (Wilkerson) typed up his resignation. But for whatever reason, he couldn't bring himself to turn it in. It sat in his desk drawer for quite awhile before he actually submitted it.

>I think at least 75% of U.S. citizens are seriously questioning everything about this current administration now. I would be surprised if it were not so. Granted, before the Iraq war intelligence information presented an almost overwhelming necessity for our intervention there, especially when that information was presented by someone of Colin Powell's stature. Everything that has evolved since then however only forces us to question everything that comes from this administration (which should be done regardless). I think the most surprising awareness (not the most destructive) was learning that Colin Powell could be either a)pressured into making false statements or b)duped into thinking those statements were not false.

>>Not only that!! There appears to be some people who think that oil has absolutely nothing to do with our Iraqi invasion. Nothing, nada, noway! It's all about showing Iraqi people how wonderful their lives will be once they get a taste of democracy.
