>>It must be heart-breaking to a US citizen to hear that, 3 years after the war, 100 US soldiers killed in Iraq in the last month. That's turning into a serious figure (and that's just this last month!) and has to smack of Vietnam. Similarly, there were, I think, c. 10 British squaddies killed in Afghanistan last month - and that smarts! UK losses seem to be about 1/10 of the US in this War on Terror but, given the force is only about 1/10 of the US force, then the losses are comparable.

>I don't think it's "strange". The war has been done to death here and the same old same old come out with the same old same old any time it is brought up. Gets tedious after a while.

>Canada is suffering casualties in Afghanistan too at rates much higher than the first 3+ years since we've been engaged in actual direct fighting, and that hurts a lot too. Especially given that my son is in the Army. In a job considered safe from deployment, that is about to change.

>I think, too, that the U.S. election is high in peoples' minds these days.
Yes, all of our attention is directed towards our border with Mexico. Should we make the wall higher, longer, deeper or thicker? We have to stay focused on the administrations agenda.
The war in Iraq has no importance as it is a given. It deserves no comment as it would detract from matters that are important.
