>>No, nothing funny with the war, just the wording, maybe it is not even wrong, but I read it as "If Nixon wouldn't have ended it (the war), I would've done it (ending the war)" (and I believe I am not wording this sentence right!), but it might be my weak English. Anyways, I was just joking no intention to offend you or anyone.

David;

Luckily I enlisted in 1963. There was still a draft then but no lottery as occurred during the Vietnam War until 1973. Lots of guys I know stayed in college and obtained PhD’s to avoid being drafted. George Hamilton (the actor) was a boy friend of one of LBJ’s daughters. George received a deferment so he could support his mother. George dropped his relationship with the daughter some time later and is now famous due to his recent appearances on "Dancing with The Stars". :).

Another thought: Nixon left the presidency during August of 1974, and we were out of Vietnam around April of 1975, under President Ford, who declared the Vietnam War “finished”. Part of the agreement with Vietnam to end the war was we were to pay them $20 billion, which we never did. Henry Kissinger negotiated the treaty with Vietnam under the Nixon presidency. The treaty was actually a “cease fire”

As I recall the bombing of Cambodia was begun in 1969, and our action in Laos began in 1971. My point is that under Nixon the war escalated to include other countries, while not being publicized.

Nixon stated before being elected to the presidency for his first term that the United States had the ability to pave Vietnam with concrete and make it a parking lot, within a month. That kind of talk made people think that we could get rid of those war monger democrats!

Being a Vietnam Vet I have too many thoughts and memories on this subject to relate to anyone. I just do not like any war.
