I understand your position but I don't equate information on benefits and risks in serving your country with smoking crack or using drugs. The only similarity is that both may have a life or death result, but then so does driving, flying, crossing the street, and many other risks we take daily. We get the best training we can to alleviate as many of the risks as possible. Those risks are dramatically different during peacetime than during wartime. Your analogy is basically stating that those countries who have compulsary military service are basically pointing a gun to the childrens' heads and is the equivalent of giving them crack...

Also, the basic age requirements don't allow for anyone to join under the age of 18 without parental consent:

You must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
You must be at least 17 years old (17-year old applicants require parental consent).
You must (with very few exceptions) have a high school diploma.
You must pass a physical medical exam.
