The default output file name that is giving you the trouble isn't by any chance the name of the *FRX* as well, is it? (I understand that it's not the name of the cursor, but this possibility represents a separate potential issue)

Also, are there objects involved here (can't tell from this code) how the query device is designed? Any superclasses that might be changing something, including in their error handling?

Does the form have a private data session? Does the report?
