Ok, that's a bit different from what you said...

Sure, it's absolutely possible that some report engines are faster than others, on some types of reports. In fact it's 99% probable <g>.

It's *impossible*, however, to make a claim that one report engine will always be faster than another on a report based simply on a description of the report as "long" or "large". That's not enough information to provide an accurate recommendation, although there will certainly be people who tell you otherwise.

Meanwhile -- as a completely separate issue -- in reporting as elsewhere, "the appearance of speed" from a user's POV is often based on completely subjective factors rather than actual timings.

There might be some ways you can make a specific report *appear* faster, in any engine (even Crystal) by handling some aspects of preparation differently so that the user's perspective is different.

And, of course, there will also be some report engines that work harder at pursuing this goal (subjective speed) than others.

Should you necessarily go for a report engine based on this particular feature? I wouldn't, unless they're complaining very bitterly indeed <g>.
