Finally, after the endless trials and different combinations, it works.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. It's so comforting to know that the
FoxPro community is out there and willing to share their knowledge and expertise.

Following Sergey's recommendations:
-I went into the Menu Designer -> View -> General Options and checked Top-Level form.
-The ShowWindow property was set to '2' (it had been all along).
-I called the menu from within the form's INIT with the line
do menu2.mpr with this
