I agree. On the other hand, in this particular case, AI didn't protest against the death penalty by itself, but against what they consider a trial that was not as fair and unbiased as trials are supposed to be.
I really think that's more of a pretext - had Hussein been sentenced to life in prison, I doubt they'd be protesting the 'unfairness' of the trial.
