Unfortunately, I've never heard of anyone getting charged with an official offense for any of these acts. I'm not sure if it's because they can't identify the culprit, or if there is just no laws against these types of things.

>are these things an offence? can people be charged with this or is it legal (just about) and just in bad taste?

>>Unfortunately, your example is one of many. They listed several example's of this on the radio this morning.
>>
>>1) People in New Mexico are being bombarded with calls from the repub party telling them, incorrectly of course, that their polling places have changed
>>2) Repub robo calls using push polling - they had an article in the LA paper last week with a profile of a guy who runs a robo calling center. He was proud of the number of calls he could perform per hour. He's a former Reagan appointee. Now employeed by the repubs to perform one of their Rove's favorite tactics. Push calling. Trying to put bad perceptions of dems in voters minds.
>>3) In several states, voters have been bombarded by robo calls appearing to be from dems, but are actually made by repubs.

>>>Over the last couple of weeks, we've received four large glossy postcards proclaiming:
>>>
>>>"On [fill in the issue], There's No Difference."
>>>
>>>Then an explanation of how Santorum and Casey have the same view on whichever issue this is and three others. The issues include abortion, same-sex marriage, stem cells and gun control.
>>>
>>>The postcard says it comes from the Progressive Policy Council, "a not-for-profit organization seeking to educate the public and to advocate for progressive public policy solutions for contemporary social issues." Website is www.progressivepolicycouncil.org.
>>>
>>>Each time we've received one, we've wondered what the point was, since it doesn't tell us to vote for someone else or what to do about it. (The cards also distort Casey's positions, to some extent.)
>>>
>>>So, last night, we learned that this is the work of a Republican politico, hoping to reduce Democratic turn-out. http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/15917651.htm
>>>
>>>Interestingly, the cards have a Virginia PO Box as return address, and a Horsham, PA bulk mail permit. WhoIs on the website turns up Yarmouth, Nova Scotia as the registered address.
>>>
>>>Nasty, nasty, nasty.
