I am reposting this because based on the responses so far, I'm not sure I clearly
articulated my needs.

I am doing some research on the software development process. Specifically, I'm looking
for information on the processes involved in the design, construction, testing and delivery
of software systems. In other words, when you're sitting at your desk working, what's involved?
This is all about pratical application, not theory.

Let me clarify the questions a bit:


1) What type of organization do you work in?
Are you an independant consultant, part of an IT department, a programmer for a software company?

2) What is your role?
Owner, Manager, Developer, QA, ect

3) What level of experience do you have?
1 year, 5 years, ect

4) Describe the software development process where you work. Specifically,
what do you typically do in the course of your work?
Specifically, what steps do you take to accomplish a task from start to finish?
I receive an email from a client who wants a new report. I submit the email to my boss,
who reviews it and sends it back approved. I use VFP and SQL to develop the report. The
report is sent to QA. QA test it and when bugs are found, submits a defect notice to me...


5) What products do you use in the normal course of your work?
MS Word - Documentation
Visual Source Safe - CM
Test Track - Defect Tracking
MS Project - Project Management

6) If you could improve on this process, what would you change?
Better documentation, better QA...

7) What parts of the process work well?
Project flows smoothly from a to b
