--Sheesh, I got all sorts of stick for daring to raise the issue of autospanning cursors right here, so he'd have to be a fool to go somewhere where you make it sound as if everybody knows they are right, apparently don't know WHY they are right, but certainly know how to bully and attack any heathen who dares to suggest their emperor has no clothes.
Like I said earlier, I'm finished after I threw in my two cents.
While some past discussions forced me to at least re-think my posiitons, this exercise hasn't. If anything, I feel even more strongly. I continue to hold that part of the reason SPs are eschewed is due to not being fully aware of T-SQL enhancements over the years. From older ones like COALESCE to newer ones like Common Table Expressions, there's more and more you can do in stored procs. There are reasons why more than half the DBA/developers out there prefer SPs for most things...or at the very least as a starting point...and the reasons go far beyond the 'emperor's clothes' argument.
