>My father talks about working at M. D. Anderson hospital in the late 1950's, with "white" and "colored" restrooms and drinking fountains. He helped to change that (by, among other things, stealing or switching the signs <g>). Change for the better.

True. And easier said than done, as you know.
"Sorry, Can't Resist" Dep't -- are you saying that if you were a schoolgirl today you wouldn't wear a skirt? <g>
Good for your dad for standing up and changing what he could. And he taught his children well. I don't think I know whether he's still alive or not. Here's hoping so.
My dad surprised me by calling last night. Usually I call him. He was not pleased with the election results but not surprised, either. He is a Republican believer and donor and knows most of the top dogs personally. He is from the fiscal, "leave me alone" branch of the party, thank goodness, not the "let me tell you how to run your life" branch of the party. He has a lingering support for Dubya that I don't quite understand. The guys he is genuinely upset with are Cheney and Rumsfeld. He thinks they have led the party and the country off a cliff.
