I don't think they have failed to be Republicans. If anything they have drawn the Democrats closer to them, as you said in another message. There is no doubt in my mind that the U.S. is further to the right than it has been in my lifetime. Tuesday was a terrific day for the Democrats, of course, but I think it should be viewed as a resounding vote of disapproval of the way the country has been managed the past six years, not as a shift to the left. People don't respect incompetence and sooner or later they say so. It's not ideological.
