I stopped taking them seriously when I learned what GOP stood for (for those who don't know; Grand Old Party. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_%28United_States%29 and http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/12/03/politics/main531460.shtml).

So let's add conceited to the list of attributes to desribe them.
