Reproduction should not be the only purpose of a marriage.Reproduction is not the purpose of marriage. Legal issues like inheritance, taxes, etc. as Terry said are. You are mixing legal marriage with religious views. The law that passed is just that: law. If you are uncomfortable with the issue in your church, then a)don't marry a gay person and b) expel them from your church.
You see, church and religion can do all the discrimitation they want (often do). The law should be equal and fair to all, without discrimination (but sadly often it is not). I call this new law progressive and enlightened. Let's give these people legal rights. They are citizens, they vote and they pay taxes just like the rest of us.

It's genetics. Why would anybody "choose" to be discrimitaed against, not be able to marry and get legal rights as such, have to be "in the closet", living a secret life, etc.?
