My problems turned out to be from the VFP converter, as I used it to convert a FP DOS 2.6 project. I initially ran int problems because the converter uses page frames, so I created a replacement form (without the frame). I borrowed some code from the old converted form and introduced it into the new frameless form. Now I see why many people advise writing from scratch rather than use the converter...
