>When I attempt to open a .dbf from the command window I get a message "File not Open". I check the error message and it said that "You have attempted to read from, or write to, a file that is not currently open." We have checked our server and the file is not currently being held open.

Dwayne,
It's likely that the header is corrupt. Generally it's bytes 7-10 holding reccount() wrongly. From command window set default to data dir and execute a dir. Most likely the table will have "Not a table" next to its name. If it's the case there should be some repair utilities in files section. If not inform me and I'll send you details how to correct it along with some code.
