If your grandmother was very comfortable using XP (or 2000), she probably will be more confused that I was for at least a couple of days while trying to figure out where everything she is familiar with went. I think she would get to like it pretty quickly.

If your grandmother was a new or novice PC user, Vista would be the easiest Windows yet (and by far the safest).

Quite honestly, I was so frustrated by being completely lost in Vista that I almost decided to do a full restore back to my XP system (I did make a full backup before upgrading). I had to go out for a long walk to clear my head and unwind/unfrustrate myself before sitting down with it again..
