A miserable bunch of puritans - no singing, dancing, wearing nice bright clothes, dour, God-fearing, witch-burning, po-faced party-pooping stuck-in-the-muds. And their decendants haven't changed much! {GR&R}

Was that after the the English Civil War, after the restoration of the monarchy, when going to the theatre, dressing gaily, etc. became the norm again, after wart-face Cromwell had gone? I'm not too well up on this. Maybe they just got out of England cos they were too miserable to stay, or cos they were hounded out.
