Is there a bullet proof solution for this problem. If we move the database from Visual Foxpro to SQL Server will this solve data lost and data corruption?
I given up using DBFs years ago, after many corruption issues. I choosed Firebird (small footprint, fast, reliable). I never encountered a single database corruption since then. I've tested locally with 5 instances pumping data and then cold reset. DBFs were corrupted after first try, MySQL after the third ( and this with InnodDB tables ). Firebird database survived all cold resets and the database recovered instantly in last commited transaction state
The trouble with DBFs is that clients can corrupt a database (because power, workstation lockups or network software bugs ( oplocks, read caching ).
