I'm not saying to leave security solely to Windows. I recently installed Vista as a dual boot to start learning and testing. I'm certainly not ready to make it my primary OS until there are several anti virus packages available, at the earliest.

Vista also makes it more difficult for the average user to so things. With User Access Control and having to raise privledges to do many things, it helps protect the user.

I'm not saying to jump in with both feet and totally make the switch, but it's worth starting to look at, which is what I'm doing.

Without personal firewall, av, ids/ips, etc from best of breed third party vendors your security is threatened. PatchGuard has already been cracked. Plus the fact that for the average PC user the outside world is not the threat to security. They are :)
