Hey maybe you are looking for a work around... try this.
LOCAL loError

TRY
    ThisForm.pgItems.conItems.grdQuoteList.Column9.visible = .t.
CATCH TO loError
ENDTRY
That will ignore the error all together. Mind you it won't make your column visible either.
