specifically it was trying to book tickets on Eurostar when I got to the page where I would enter payment details.

Dohh !!

I just tried accessing that page in IE6 and it won't load. so I guess it my setup. I thought it was an IE7 problem as after it wouldn't work i went straight to another PC that had IE6 and it loaded straight away. So guess its back to unpicking whats wrong on my laptop.
