Aye, I guess that's it. It's so long since I saw it (only the once) I'd forgotten the Maude angle. I seem to recall an opening scene where his mother enters the parlour to find Harold hanging by the neck from the ceiling. She nonchalantly walks past and makes some comment to him. A young girl is brought round to the garden and he chops his hand off. Loads of stunts like that.

1971 - sheesh I didn't realise it was so old.

What puzzles me is: if Bud Cort was born in 1948, that would have made him 23 when he made this film. Yet he looks (and acts the part of) a young adolescent.
