Oh yes, The Brothers Karamazov. Don’t forget William Shatner as Alexi Karamazov. Was it really 1958?

>>>Well, you've just mentioned some of my favorites as your favorites too but I'll add a few more: Dr. Zhivago, Dancing in the rain, The Grapes Of Wrath and East Of Eden just to mention a few since I could go on all day :).

>>Ah yes Dr Zhivago.

>Ah no, Dr Zhivago. While Omar does come close, the lady (Julie Christie, IIRC) is a total miss, as is the rest of the cast. They simply can't breathe Russian. So as far as Western approximations go, it's not that bad, but not much good either. Pretty much the only good one of the kind that I saw was the old "Karamazovs" with Yul Brynner (sp?), and that's only because of him. The others were so-so.

>Want a movie done by a Russian book? Make it a Russian movie, or you'll get pretty much the same quality of experience as if listening to an opera over a phone.

>De gustibus non est disputandum. Just an opinion.
