So as far as Western approximations go, it's not that bad, but not much good either. Pretty much the only good one of the kind that I saw was the old "Karamazovs" with Yul Brynner (sp?), and that's only because of him. The others were so-so.

Interesting story about dualing German and Russian snipers during the seige of Stalingrad. A ton of some of the best actors working today. It is refreshing to see a WW2 film without American soldiers in it. On that tangent I'd recommend "A Very Long Engagement" and "Joyeux Noel" as well.
