Richard you can create as many templates as you want but then u use only 2 of them, 1 for the SelectedTemplateIndex that will be use when you select a row and the TemplateIndex that is used for all the non selected rows.
You can then also set for each row what is the SelectedTemplateIndex and TemplateIndex that row will use, in case you want to show a diferent template.
Now remember the advancelist is a litle diferent from a a grid where you can have a bunch of cols and will be all one after the other, now the advance list you will have that fixed width to manage, and in my opinion is just easy to draw that on each form, not saying that you can't do it, you can but perhaps it will endup showing information above each other.
