>So, for example, do you think the Bears would be a better team with a more conservative QB, ala Brad Johnson?
No, definitely not. Johnson has been around a long time and has had a workmanlike level of success but there isn't anything about him that quickens the pulse or strikes fear into defenses. You have to give Rex that. Along with Berrian and Bradley he gives the Bears a deep vertical threat they haven't had in a LONG time. (Like in my lifetime, and in fact you can add a few decades to that. You wouldn't believe how many Bears passing records are still held by Sid Luckman, who played in the 1930s).
But Rex still makes a lot of bad throws and bad decisions. To me the issue is not whether the Bears should stick with him as the starting QB. They definitely should IMO. As John Madden said, you have to just stick with this guy and live with the growing pains. My frustration is this is a Super Bowl caliber team with a QB who has given us good reason to doubt he can string three solid games in a row together. That's all. I am a Rex fan. He's just the biggest question mark in their quest to win this Super Bowl.
