As I understood from this thread:

1) If you're searching for *Mask*.Ext and you have shortnames generation enabled, you may receive false positives. Bruce in his last message pointed to an article about registry setting to change and Juri added another method to do this as well.

2) If you're searching for *Mask*.* you may find Mask in the extension.

If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
