Hi Mike,

The U.S. has been criticized for working outside of the UN in the past and in many cases, rightly so. In this case, the U.S. has been in the lead in pushing for the UN to act in Darfur and for Sudan to allow it. Would have the U.S. work independently from the UN in this case? What is it you really expect the U.S. (nevermind the other nations) to do? 1 BILLION dollars in aid as February 2006 so far. I'm just not clear what you expect the U.S. to do while working WITH the UN? As an individual, you could always go over there and provide humantarian aid yourself of course... Did you read the links I posted in the other messages? I think the U.S. is doing really well considering the UN's position on this. The UN needs to step up now.

>I don't know how hard we've been pushing. Advancing a UN resolution and actually dealing with the problem are two entirely different things.
