Ha! In the UK a solicitor is a lawyer. Essentially he is the one who deals with the client, gets all the details, etc. It's a barrister who pleads the case in court. A solicitor also does conveyancing, wills, corporate law - that sort of thing.

On the other hand, I wouldn't want a solicitor calling on me either! :-)
