I think you're only slightly overreacting here... I have several fairly sophisticated UI apps that work just fine under Vista. The things mentioned here are relatively minor.
Yes it sucks that they mucked around with the default control sizing but you have to realize that people have always had the ability to screw with control sizes in the first place. If users choose large fonts your app gets whacked the same way.
If you weren't planning for that you're not really developing properly for Windows in the first place...
