Puritan laws, Separation of Church and State, call it what you will. For one reason or another there may be a question or law preventing specific things in this country. Puritan laws were very strict and provided the foundation upon which our country was established. Some Puritan influenced laws and attitudes still exist. Today we use the term, ‘Politically Correct” to express where a law is coming from.

Here is one example:

In Massachusetts it was against the law to display Christmas decorations of any kind until the Puritan law was overturned in 1856. Pressure from the Irish and German Catholic population helped to change the law.

Today we have laws against displaying Christmas decorations in certain places, as it may be offensive to specific groups of people.

Somehow there seems to be some connection between Puritan laws and Political Correctness, even though they appear to be at opposite ends of the spectrum. The end result can be similar it would seem.
