As new releases of IIS server and Internet Explorer are being released, a lot of things stop working. Last week, for example, I had to remove an entire javascript module from a site because this is no longer supported in IE 7.
These changes to default functionality, or outright removal of features that used to be there are usually the result of security hardening. For Web servers, I'm all for it. IE7, I don't know much about.
You could look on this as MS's way of "encouraging" you to do things the "right" way ;)
