I had a bunch of friends on both sides of the border, and they were actually well connected among themselves - there were couples even, and they were visiting each other regularly. We once even had a New Year party in my city ('74 or so), with four guests. Two Dutch and two German.
Didn't talk to their parents a lot, so I wouldn't know about their sentiments, but then they should be mostly the generation who were kids during the war.
