Thanks to you all for the great feedback. Definitely useful lot of information on your posts. What I gather:

On the beauty-contest side of the question

1 - We will have icon-ography designed for the package by an professional designer,
2 - the designer will have http://www.fasticon.com/ and http://www.iconexperience.com and MSDN guidelines in perspective...
3- The icons will be made bigger (to improve the initial visual experience with possibly a way to reduce bitmap size later for usability),

On the general visual UI experience side of it

4 - We need a Vista workstation to tune up the VFP interface for a top-notch experience (fonts...),
5 - Demo-ing on Vista Aero is possibly be an option (thanks for the pointer to Craig Boyd's stuff).

Has anyone taken the steps to have a VFP_9 interface an interface that suits BOTH XP and VISTA (fonts arial vs sego, conditional code for AERO transparency, ... and other stuff if any)? Satisfactory output?
