But surely the GW problem is due to cows' botty burps, not to their flops lying around in fields? Thus the intro of scarabs would make no difference; they just clean up the mess and help fertalise the soil.

The 10 states in the US with the largest cattle populations are Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana, Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, and Florida...."

So I figure if we have more cattle then we need more dung bettles - thus elimating that contribution to global warming and ME still eating steak! whoohoo!

If we'd never eaten beef then we would have left the original wild herds to roam free, in the forests and on the plains, like deer. Thus they would have multiplied unchecked and herds reached "epidemic" proportions, thus resulting in the same problem. So what would we have had to do? cull them. What would we have done with the carcasses? well, no use letting such a good food resource go to waste - mi's well eat them. Well if you're going to eat them anyway, mi's well farm them, so they can be "culled" humanely and it's less trouble rounding them up and hunting them. So we end up with the same problem anyway!
