Ran the modified GenDBC code to create the View I really wanted. Seemed to work (the grid using the View looked pretty, worked with my code in the Form and the Grid). Unfortunately, the original table is not getting the new values from the View.

Did you modify view and checked 'Send SQL Updates'? It's equivivalent to
DBSetProp('MyView', 'View', 'SendUpdates', .T.)
