The difference between view and cursor is that view is buffered and inherently send data back to table(s), but you don't need in this features doing reporting. I don't know what do you mean as 'nesting', but don't worry: cursors can do all the same as views when you make reports.

I guess it's a matter of which is worse: having a view for each report or a .prg for each report. Or is there some way to put the SQL in the report that I'm not aware of?

That's true... I'm so used to filters and set key to that I didn't even think of that.
